Factors of Climate
LIVING ORGANISMS
What does it control?
What are the effects when it changes?
Can Humans alter this factor or process? If so, how?
- 🔺TEMPERATURE
- The amount of photosynthesis and respiration can change the amounts of GHG in the atmosphere (more or less)
- Humans can alter GHGs, combustion, deforestation, agriculture
- Plants help reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Farm animals produce greenhouse gases. This increases the greenhouse effect that warms our atmosphere.
What are the effects when it changes?
- Freezing = lowers sea levels
- Thawing = increase in sea level
- Living Organisms-habitat change
- Ocean Currents-influence upwelling, drought or flooding
- Surface Albedo- more or less ice changes reflectivity and the amount of the sun’s energy that is absorbed or reflected.
- With a warmer climate some plants are blooming earlier in the spring and surviving later into fall.
- Animals are migrating to colder regions. Many animals will not be able to survive if the climate gets too warm
Can Humans alter this factor or process? If so, how?
- Humans can cause this factor to change by paying attention to actions that increase or decrease the amount of greenhouse gases put into the atmosphere.
